A Place for Everything

I started my spring cleaning in the middle of January this year, I usually do actually do it in spring time, but I'd been feeling overwhelmed by the enormousness of the task so I started a few weeks ago. It's taken me a few years to get the flat how we like it decor wise, although I do love to switch things up regularly and there are things I'd still love to add once we have the money for it. However, storage in our flat just isn't working for us at the moment. We have a built in wardrobe, two built in cupboards and a small kitchen, the lack of storage has turned me into much more of a minimalist in the past few years and I keep striving to have our flat as organised as possible (I may have gotten slightly OCD about it!) But I am striving to have a place for absolutely everything.

I get really inspired by organisation accounts on Instagram and love looking for ideas on Pinterest. I don't feel like we will be moving from our flat for a few years, as we both love it and the location, so I want to make this the year that I make our flat really work for us functionally as well as aesthetically. In my mind I can see all the areas that I want to improve and as I said before it did feel overwhelming to me, especially as we don't have a lot of money for major changes or to realise my ideal dream flat, but I'm going to try my best.

I consider myself quite good at home DIY, having watched my mum do so much of it when growing up. My mum is definitely where I got my interior design love from as she would always be redecorating or improving her home on a budget. This meant that she was creative with her money, and in turn I can usually always think of a creative solution for my home. I recently completed our small projects space in our office, this is where we can make and craft our various hobbies. The space I am most excited about at the moment is redoing our wardrobe, although I am making my husband nervous with my plans to undertake it by myself, as this will be one of the most major home projects I have ever done. It will involve ripping the current wardrobe doors and door frame out completely plus a little bit of stud wall, and replacing it with a modular wardrobe from Ikea, which I may also have to hack so that it will fit into the space we have. I'm not worried as I'm just excited about the end product and how the space will be so much more functional. I'm looking forward to trying to make our flat easier to use and most of all, easier to keep tidy!
